Atul Malhotra, MD, an internationally recognized sleep medicine specialist with UC San Diego Health, led a study testing the efficacy of a diabetes drug in patients with obstructive sleep apnea.

CCB member Benjamine Smarr, and UCSD researcher colleagues analyzed data from 5 million nights of sleep across 33,000 people, identifying “sleep phenotypes.” Using wearables helped to identify health risks (KPBS video).

Christian Harding named Schmidt AI in Science Postdoc
CCB's Dr. Harding was named Schmidt AI in Science Postdoc, a multi-institution initiative supporting a two-year Postdoc fellowship. Christian will apply AI techniques into latent sleep apnea subtypes by identifying patterns in large datasets of sleep apnea mechanisms, symptoms and comorbidities.

Terry Sejnowski wins 2024 Brain Prize
CCB member, Dr. Sejnowski, Salk, was awarded the 2024 Brain Prize by the Lundbeck Foundation for his pioneering work in computational and theoretical neuroscience. He shares the prize with Larry Abbott of Columbia University and Haim Sompolinsky of Harvard University and Hebrew University.

CCB hosted a very successful 14th Annual Center for Circadian Biology Symposium, held at the Sanford Consortium, Feb 21-23, 2024. We thank the success of our event to the 116 attendees and 19 outstanding speakers. Attendees were represented from 2 countries and 12 states.

Ron Evans wins coveted Japan Prize
Congratulations to CCB member Ron Evans, named a 2024 Japan Prize winner for "discovery of the nuclear hormone receptor family and its application to drug development." The Japan Prize is one of the most prestigious awards in science and technology, and well deserved by Dr. Evans.
