CCB Director Golden awarded Aschoff-Honma Prize for 2018
The Aschoff and Honma Memorial Foundation (Sapporo Symposium at Hokkaido University), was awarded CCB Director Susan Golden for her research on the mechanism and physiological consequences of circadian rhythms in cyanobacteria.

CCB's Joanne Chory wins $3 million Breakthrough Prize
Dr. Chory, a preeminent plant biologists is leading the charge to combat global warming with plant-based solutions. Awarded this Breakthrough Prize for her pioneering work deciphering how plants optimize growth, development and cellular structure to transform sunlight into chemical energy.

Congratulations to Mike Young, awarded Nobel Prize
CCB advisory board member Michael Young, has achieved the highest scientific honor: the Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine. He shares this award with Jeffrey Hall and Michael Rosbash, for their foundational work identifying the molecular machinery underpinning the circadian clock.

Guidelines for Genome-Scale Analysis of Biological Rhythms
Over 80 leading circadian researchers, including CCB members, produced guidelines for the analysis of large genome-scale experiments with rhythmic biological outputs. They also present CircaInSilico, a new synthetic data application for simulating circadian data sets and aiding experimental design.

Congratulations to CCB affiliate Carrie Partch, who received the 2018 Margaret Oakley Dayhoff Award from the Biophysical Society for her "ground-breaking combination of biophysics and cell biology that is defining how protein conformational changes control circadian clock timing."

Collaboration reveals "missing link" photoreceptor for Drosophila clock entrainment
In the journal Nature CCB affiliate Todd Holmes, Lisa Baik, Craig Montell, and Jinfei Ni, report the discovery of a previously uncharacterized rhodopsin, Rh7. Other rhodopsins work in the eye and external photoreceptors, Rh7 operates directly in circadian neurons.

Partch/LiWang/Golden collaboration reports clock complex structures
In the journal SCIENCE results from a collaboration among CCB members Carrie Partch, Andy LiWang, and Susan Golden. The paper reveals structures of multi-component Kai oscillator complexes of the cyanobacterial clock, with insights into interactions that contribute to 24-h timing.
