Wearable devices can predict COVID-19 before symptoms
CCB’s Benjamin Smarr, lead author of a new paper in the journal Scientific Report. An ongoing study indicates wearable devices with temperature sensors have been found to provide early COVID-19 warning signs, even for patients with no symptoms.

Circadian rhythm disruption affects people with bipolar disorder
People with bipolar disorder suffer depressive and manic mood episodes and commonly report disturbances in the daily routines in sleep, activity, and motivation. Psychiatrist and CCB member Michael McCarthy addressed the International Bipolar Foundation to review the chronobiology of bipolar disorder.

Dr. Terence Hwa Elected to National Academy of Sciences
CCB member Dr. Terry Hwa has been elected to the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, one of the highest honors in science. Dr. Hwa, Distinguished Professor and Presidential Chair of Physics, and an appointment in Molecular Biology, UC San Diego. His studies include the dynamics and regulation of gene circuits and bacterial growth.
